Christmas Elf Hat Crochet Pattern

Crochet a striped, top-down elf hat with playful ears and a pompom. Six sizes let you make a matching set for the smallest and tallest members of the family.

Choose by actual head circumference: 0–6 months 14–15 in / 35.6–38.1 cm; 6–12 months 15–16 in / 38.1–40.6 cm; toddler 16–18 in / 40.6–45.7 cm; child 18–20 in / 45.7–50.8 cm; tween 20–22 in / 50.8–55.9 cm; adult 22–24 in / 55.9–61 cm. Check the 14 double-crochet stitches per 4 in / 10.2 cm gauge.

Use worsted #4 yarn in red, white and beige, a 5.5 mm crochet hook, tapestry needle, stitch markers and pompom maker or cardboard. The sample supplies list uses one 170 yd / 3.5 oz skein of each colour. Work the hat from the top down, sew on the ears and finish the folded brim and pompom. Do not leave infants unattended while wearing; omit the optional jingle bell for children under three.
